The Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) works to promote and provide opportunities for professional development and continuing midwifery education. CAM is working to deliver a national, bilingual, evidence based, midwifery emergency skills program. CAM recognizes the Association of Ontario Midwives (AOM) role in the development of the program.
For midwives residing outside of Ontario, CAM facilitates access to the AOM Emergency Skills Workshop Manuals, Instructor Manuals and access to the Emergency Skills Exam. Topics include: Managing Emergencies, Postpartum Haemorrhage, Antepartum Haemorrhage, Abnormal Fetal Heart Rate Patterns, Malpresentation and Cord Prolapse, Shoulder Dystocia, Undiagnosed Breech, Undiagnosed Twins.
The AOM Emergency Skills Manuals and the Exam have been translated by CAM and are therefore available in both English and French.
Each provincial regulatory body requires that emergency skills be maintained at regular intervals. Please contact your provincial or territorial regulatory body for more information.
